Service Description: This dataset is an ONC aggregate product that displays identified positions of vent structures at the Endeavour Marine Protected Area, accompanied by calculated depth and height estimates. Description: This dataset results from the integration of vent position data provided by both the University of Washington (UW) and the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI). Depth calculations and height estimations were derived from 1m resolution bathymetric data collected by MBARI's Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV). The height values for each structure were estimated by generating a 'seafloor' raster from the EndeavourAUV data and determining the height difference between the original bathymetry data and the modelled 'seafloor.' The seafloor raster was created using the Focal Statistics geoprocessing tool with the following parameters: Circle 6 Cell Neighbourhood, Minimum Statistic, to generate a generalised seafloor with the vent structures removed.

Vent_Structures_MBARI: Vent structures identified by 1m bathymetry grids collected by MBARI's AUV. These data are published in Jamieson et al. (2014, Figure 2 in Earth Planetary Science Letters, 395, 136-148). Data were compiled at MBARI. Contact David Clague or David Caress for information on crediting this dataset.
EndeavourAUV: These data are published by Clague et al. (2014, Geochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 15, Issue 8, 3364-3391). These data are the sole property of the Monterey Bay Research Aquarium Institute. Data will be made available in the near future through NGDC and the Ridge data portal at Lamont.
