Service Description: Provided by Island County on 10/22/2024. This layer is comprised of those parcels with a legally binding agreement that limits certain types of uses. Conservation easements protect land for future generations while allowing owners to retain many private property rights; they provide potential tax benefits and preserve specific conservation values of the property. The conservation easement documentation has been reviewed for basic attributes, description notes, buildable notes, conservation easement holder, etc. Additionally, the legal descriptions have been reviewed to verify which parcels are within the boundaries of each easement. The conservation easement boundaries are broken down into individual parcels, the layer reflects those parcels with only a portion of the parcel’s area within the designated boundaries. Only the portion in the easement is drawn in the feature class.

Description:

This feature class is primarily utilized by the Assessor’s Office, the Planning and Community Development Department and other departments as a reference. It is expected that this feature class will be used to verify easement boundaries, building restrictions and as a connection to the original document through imbedded links. The Assessor’s office tracks the conservation easement locations in order to determine if the presence of the designated restrictions impact the assessed value of a property. This layer of conservation easements is not an exhaustive list, those known easements have been mapped and it is possible that conservation easements have been excluded due to missing documentation. Tracking easements recorded in the Auditor’s office will continue and updates will occur as needed.
