Description:

4/11/2022, I finished importing the fieldwork into the SDE at University Village. University Village has gone from overhead power to underground power. The work started the Summer of 2021 and completed Spring of 2022. I went out on 4/4/2022 and GPS the above ground infrastructure. The receiver in good sky was getting better than an inch accuracy; however, much of this neighborhood has thick evergreen tree cover. Robert Holder and Mike Stamey held the GPS receiver to speed up the collection process. The powerlines are drawn connecting the collected points unless it was noticed that trenching was done. I also used a model given to me by Matt Makdad. Here Is a link to the entire project.

2/10/2022 Used Data Supplied by Scott Eggers, Robert Holder and Mike Stamey Fieldwork, using Esri Collector starting 5/21/2019 and ending 10/27/2020 to update poles. Areas studied J21, K21, I25, J25,K24, K25, K26, K27, L23, L24, L25, L26, L27, M23, M24, M25, M26,N23,N24,N25, N27, O25, O26,R25, S24, S25. Images were taken and embeded in collector. Here is a Link to the raw data

8/31/2021 Updated Forest Hill Area using GPS and a site visit 8/23/2021, further attribution will come later. The GPS worked pretty good in most areas struggled in dense canopy setting.

7/9/2018 This, feature class was updated with a 2017 survey. The Old High School property was surveyed by Timothy W. Caldwell License number L-5232, September 27, 2017, Mattern & Crag Engineers and Surveyers. Data is considered 90% accurate, and data was collected between 8/ 5-18 / 2017. All coordinates are based on NCGS NAD/83/ 2011 and all elevations are based on NAVD 88.

7/6/2018 This, feature class was updated with a 2017 survey.

9/8/2017 Edited Poles removed duplicates and added attribution just around ASU properties.

8/25/2017 The remaining 67 images were attached to the power pole points that came from Rochester’s many folders a python script was run to place all images into an organized folder.

8/25/2017 The 2685 images from Rochester have been attached using VB and Python.

8/23/2017 Ready to attach the 2752 Rochester images to this feature class that now contains 9883 points. This feature class is the combination of Rochester Utility Poles, Power poles with images, and NRLP secondary poles that was done in house.

8/21/2017 Three feature classes have been combined which are; secondary poles located by NRLP, count 1743, power poles located and photographed by Rochester, count 2782, and utility poles remotely sensed by unknown, count 5358, to create a master power pole list with accurate attribution. Now the tough work begins weeding the duplicates out, removing poles not associated with NRLP, and properly attributing missing attribution.

Utility Pole

3/6/2017 Editor Tracker has been added to this feature class. All of the attributes have been appropriately updated and meaningless columns omitted. However, this is a work in progress.

A utility pole is tall structure usually made of wood used to support, overhead wires such as: telephone, electrical, cable, and fiber optic. This shapefile was created using accurate ground supported aerial photographs interpreting the data, and properly labeling the prescribed features. In this dataset 5358 utility poles were located. No other data is available, nor is when this shapefile was created.

Power Pole

3/6/2017 Editor Tracker has been added to this feature class. All of the attributes have been appropriately updated and meaningless columns omitted. However, this is a work in progress.

A power pole is a support structure for overhead electrical transmission lines as well as electrical transformers, street lights, telephone, fiber, and cable. In this dataset 2782 data points were geolocated, all but 30 were photographed between 8/19/2014 and 10/30/2014. Note 2726 of those data points do not have a date listed. Nothing is listed in the following columns: owner, install_yr, and source. The ID column has 83 blank fields, and id’s that don’t really match the others in style examples of some of these are: (1, 6, 9, 101-120, {(17), NO ACCESS}, {(4), ACCESS DENIED}, P 1, {(252), NO #)}. Some of the limited comments are as follows: WIND TURBINE, (2), TERRAIN, TAG DAMAGED, SUPPORTS LIGHT LINE, S.BELL POLE, (3), S. BELL, OWNER'S EMPLOYEE DENIED ACCESS, NO PP, NO ACCESS, (2), LIGHTPOLE, K2605E, I2504C, I2504B, I2504A, I25041, I2502B, I2502A, I25021, I2501K, I2501J, I2501H, CONDUIT ONLY, BT299, BRACE POLE, BELLSOUTH, BARE POLE, and 160457. In this dataset other municipalities power poles have also been geolocated as seen in PointID, 25420. This power pole is Blue Ridge Electric’s pole.
