Description: 3/18/2021 This feature class was updated with a Georeferenced PDF C401, of Sanford Hall, and a site visit 3/17/2021. The purpose of the visit was to collect newly planted trees for the tree feature class. Hopefully a drawing file will be available to further correct infrastructure. 5/13/2020 Request40 new ornamental treesGIS/Data RequestNovacekm Facilities OperationsFri, May 8, 9:37 AM (5 days ago)Has David shared species and locations with you so you can track them in inventory?Michelle NovacekDirector, Real Estate & External CommunicationsDirect: 828-262-8776novacekm@appstate.eduI edited, added and subtracted trees, field work on 5/11/2020 using ESRI collector application completed work on 5/13/2020. Tue, Jul 2, 5:02 PM (6 days ago)to Gregrey, William, ArthurHello Greg,I know you are busy and this maybe easier than a phone call. I noticed on social media that the grounds has done some preventative tree care on some of the Ash trees on campus, and was wondering if we need to track this in the GIS, tree feature class, for Tree Campus USA? This leads to my next question is there anyway I could be told when trees are being removed or added? I am getting most of my Intel from a third party or field work; collecting other infrastructure data, and seeing changes in the landscape. Also, the dumpster feature class is becoming outdated and needs to be updated if desired. I still have not added the trash can feature class to portal since it has not been updated since I was in grounds with Tim Harmon and created a .KML with Google Earth, 2014.Thanks,EddieGreg TaylorWed, Jul 3, 6:56 AM (5 days ago)to Christopher, David, Jordan, me, William, ArthurThanks Eddie, As we have spoken several times, please reach out to Chris Erickson and/or Jordan Gragg for information relating to tree care, TreeCampus USA. Also, data management dealing with dumpster locations, recycling sites and containers, etc. can be best communicated with David Isaacs and his team. I saw on social media you guys have done some preventative treatments for the EAB, do we need to track that in the GIS? Please send me a list of trees as they are planted and removed so I can keep the database as current as possible. You may also come by and we can edit the database live, this may be the best procedure. As I see things I am updating but I am sure I am missing some items. Thanks so much EddieWorkWed, Jul 3, 9:42 AM (5 days ago)to me, Jordan, William, GregreyEddie, I’m out today, but can meet Friday if you’d like. Most of the trees we treated were in the nature preserve, but we got all the ash on the inventory. Take a look at the map portal and see if I have got the removals and additions correct. Do you want to add the trees treated in the Nature Preserve for future queries? A shapefile is fine or Latitude and Longitude and I can add them that way. Then what product you used, the date applied and the rate. Feel free to come by or give me a call. EddieWorkWed, Jul 3, 1:13 PM (5 days ago)to me, Jordan, William, GregreySorry for the end of that email. I got my texting mixed with email writing. ThanksSent from my iPhoneEdward Hyle Wed, Jul 3, 1:46 PM (5 days ago)to Work, Jordan, William, GregreyNo problem, sounds good thanks.4/29/2019Added and removed more trees for 2019 Spring Tree Campus USA Planting, Convocation, and MSC, still limited communication from Landscape, Luckly coppied on an NRLP emailed invoice so I could get variiety names for some trees. 3/15/2019 Attempting to manage the tree feature class with limited communication with the grounds department. As I see changes in the landscape I am placing those into this feature class, newly planted, donated, removed etc. I’m sure I am missing some things. Once construction has been completed I think it would be great using student labor redo and update this feature class. Today it was decided that all trees in the P3 area would be attributed removed and the saved relocated trees would be labeled newly planted as seen in the email below. Work8:02 AM (1 hour ago)to me, Jeffery, Gregrey, WilliamEddie, can we just mark them all as removed? We are transplanting some today across campus and I can let you know spots when planted. Count them as newly planted?Sent from my iPhone3/10/ 2019 I collected newly planted trees for the GIS database at the Leon Levine Hall of Health Sciences Building. No one told me about these additions. Observations: all tags and ribbons have not been removed, broken branches have not been corrected, many trees the root flare is not visible and mulch is against the stems. All nursery staking has not been removed this many cause damage as the trees grow. The Higan cherries in the rear are swimming in water. Cherries do not like wet feet, they like well drained loams in full sun. 12/1/2017 Using collector I added trees planted around Newland Residence Hall and the Yosef statue November 29thand 30th. 11/30/2017 added to the SDE with appropriate domains.11/07/2017 Updated needed domains and edited affected attribute columns. Had some difficulty working over the network.10/11/2017 Now in the SDE the appropriate images were attached to some of the points in this feature class. Many are out of date but were attached anyway.6/13/2017 Added these fields as requested by Chris EricksonPD, Pest and Disease Observed, string 75Severity, Severity of Attack: minimal, needs attention, severe, dead, unknown, string 30DO, Dates Observed, string 100 Treatment, Product Used, string 75 TD, Treatment Date, date 4/9/2017 Tree meeting I have been charged with keeping up with the tree inventory Landscape will send updates as trees are removed and planted. Updated complete, however each point needs to be touched again in the field to reconcile.2/21/2017 Tidying up existing data for Highland Mapping, typos and missing data, also added global id and editor tracking.11/28/2016 Phone Call From Chris Erickson stating he would maintain the tree inventory from now on. Decision made by Dr. Greg Taylor and himself. This project started as a corporative effort between the Physical Plant and the Biology Department 2008-2013. This enabled ASU to achieve tree campus USA status in 2014. A graduate student named Jason Harkey was contracted by the Physical Plant to locate the prominent trees on Appalachian State University campus. This inventory was performed between 2011-2013, he also quickly assessed each of the trees for visible obvious hazards. He also did his master’s thesis on tree biodiversity, tree health, and carbon sequestration. Collecting his own data helped him with this. Chris Erickson edited and maintained this shapefile off and on until 2015. The Spring semester 2016 Edward Hyle edited and corrected much of this attribute information. Now it is time all the trees are reassessed, and possibly adding more of the outlying trees to the inventory, to be identified and studied. Many of the data points that were obviously incorrectly located were snapped to the 6" base map provided by the Geography Department. Currently there are 3165 living trees associated with Appalachian State University campus tree inventory, 1995 are deciduous and 1170 are evergreen.Dr. Michael Madritch, Jason Harkey, Chris Erickson, Edward HyleNRLP 100 Tree Planting 4/20/2015
