2026.07.21 - Final Visitor Experience approval of all trail changes to the official "HikingTrails" layer (identified with VE staff input) made in this layer between January 1st and July 21st, 2026. Hiking Trails layer prior to this period has been archived in new retired version: "\\che-nas-geo\Geomatics\DATA\00_CoreData\GIS_DATA\VECTOR\Retired\2026_Retired\HikingTrails_retired20260721".
2026.07.09 - 2 trails in this layer were freshly captured with the high-accuracy GPS device, the EOS Arrow: Le Buttereau, and Neils Brook Bridge.
2026.06.25 - 23 trails in this layer had their Z-values updated on all vertices. The reason was that 3 of them completely lacked Z-values (Aspy, Mica Hill, Le vieux chemin du Cap-Rouge), and another 20 of them had new sections added via desktop edits that completely lacked Z-data, and many original sections had questionable Z-values (e.g. when compared to DEM heights). All vertices in these combined 23 trail line features were given DEM-derived Z-data from a 1m resolution DEM, itself derived from Provincial (GeoNova) LiDAR. It is unknown as to why the three line features completely lacking previous Z-data did so. Another 3 trails (Mary Ann Falls, Franey, Middle Head) already had their XY as well as their Z-data updated via field collection using a high-accuracy GPS device (EOS Arrow) throughout the fall of 2025. To help manage this data set, the table schema has been updated to include the following fields: AlphaOrder, ClockwiseOrder, XYsource, XYdate, HasZData, Zsource, and Zdate.
In early 2023, the original source of this layer was located on a portable hard drive: "\\GIS_CBH_1\GIS_DATA\VECTOR\CBHNP_Base.gdb\Trails_dissolve_name". It was copied to the newly-acquired NAS server in June of that year as: "\\che-nas-geo\Resource Conservation\Geomatics\Archive__Pre20230605_GeomaticsDrive\GIS_DATA\VECTOR\CBHNP_Base.gdb\Trails_dissolve_name".
For descriptions of earlier changes to this FC read the metadata of previous versions, now retired Feature Classes, located here: "\\che-nas-geo\Resource Conservation\Geomatics\DATA\VECTOR\Retired\".
