Currently, SWMGIS maintains multiple Feature Classes that represent impounded water, such as Major Lakes, Detention and Retention Ponds, and Sumps with very similar geometries. Furthermore, existing layers (Major Lakes, Detention and Retention Pond) in SWMGIS production server are missing a substantial number of features compared to the GIS data layer created by vendor, Gresham Smith and Partners in late 2012 as a part of the Comprehensive Dredge Management Plan (CDMP) 2013 which is shared by David Phan of Flood Management. There is also a water body layer (Area_Lake) provided by Paul Sill that are outside of the city boundary but the City has stake on them.
This integrated waterbodies layer includes reconciled, Lakes, Reservoirs, Detention-Retention Ponds, Sumps, layers along with CDMP GIS Layer and Paul Sill compiled Area Lakes layer. This GIS data represents water bodies that are within City of Dallas or the City has water rights on. The data is first compiled and created in February 2023.
