As required by Dallas City Charter, redistricting of elected official districts is requred every ten years based on updated Census information. This shapefile represents the updated city council district boundaries as approved by the Dallas City Council on October 5, 2011. Boundaries are based upon 2010 Census Block geography and may not conform with other data. Where street boundaries serve as district borders, the entire right of way is assigned to the northern or eastern boundary.
Utilizing this file with non-census shapefiles may result in discrepancies between boundaries. To identify appropriate boundaries, please use in conjunction with the 2010 Census edges and block files.
US Census Bureau 2020 Tabulation Blocks with 2013 implemented Council Districts for Dallas, with total population, Hispanic and Not Hispanic population and Household counts.
US Census Bureau 2020 Tracts, with total population, Hispanic and Not Hispanic population, race counts and Household counts. Used for granular inspection of population changes. Dissolved from tabulation blocks. There are multi-part polygons because of non-contiguous geometry.
Change columns were calculated using this general approach:
2020 count minus 2010 count
Negative value in change column indicates lower count in 2020 than 2010.
Upon data review it was found that the 2010 Total Population count summarized from the calculated change table is 286 fewer than the total reported for Dallas in 2010. This is because of 104 2010 tabulation block centroids that did not intersect the 2020 Dallas tabulation blocks. Of these, 16 tabulation blocks had population counts greater than 0 and none appear to have been correctly assigned to Dallas. For the sake of population change by block, it seems safe to exclude these blocks from the calculations.
