Historic_DWU_Benchmarks (FeatureServer)

View In:   Map Viewer

Service Description: This information is not updated or maintained. The only purpose of sharing this information is to facilitate finding elevation marks near proposed utility design projects. This is a Point feature class representing historic locations of elevation benchmarks, cross-cut marks, etc. Many of these historic marks have been destroyed by subsequent construction and maintenance of streets, curbs, sidewalks, etc. These so-called benchmarks are strictly elevation marks at best, rather than precice x,y locations. These elevation mark features are no longer maintained by the City of Dallas, but may have some utility in utility construction, when they can be found. No meaningful field work has been done on these marks since 2010. No meaningful inventory of existing versus destroyed marks has been done since 2014. There was an intent for City of Dallas Public Works Survey to set a significant number of new elevation benchmarks in approximately 2010, but this effort was ultimately abandoned.
