9-1-1 Trail Markers
Once a park trail has been paved, it is walked by Dallas Fire-Rescue and Parks and Recreation personnel to identify prospective trail marker locations and verify the rotue of the trail. A trail markers is placed at the trailhead and are placed every six hundred and sixty feet (1/8 Mile) for the length of the trail. Trail markers may be placed short of or beyond the stated distance becuase of obstructions (cross streets, bridges, creeks, etc...). Each trail marker is identified by the abbreviated trail name followed by a number, Example: KT102. The trail marker is also assigned a valid physical address of the nearest structure for the purpose of dispatching appropriate emergency service personnel.
The coordinates of each trail marker is sent to the Parks and Recreation department so signs may be produced and permanently placed at each location. The DFR CAD administrator also creates a "premise locaton" in the CAD system for each trail marker.
