Description:

Note: Due to internal software updates/improvements, the public posting of records has been paused. We will resume our daily updates as soon as we are able.

The Fire Incidents dataset provides details about fire, false alarms, emergency rescues, and hazardous condition events the Detroit Fire Department (DFD) responded to from September 2016 to the Present. New incidents are added following a 21-day delay. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Medical First Response (MFR) incident data are outside the scope of this dataset, and therefore are not included.
Incident records are created when the DFD Communications division receives a 911 emergency call, or, rarely, notice of an emergency through another channel. Communications dispatches DFD Emergency Operations division assets from local fire stations.

Fire incident response and record keeping requirements are mandated by the City of Detroit Fire Prevention and Protection Code (Detroit City Code Chapter 18) and the State of Michigan Fire Prevention Code (Act 207 of 1941) and conducted according to National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) standards. Fire times are mandated by the mandated by the National Fire Protection Association.

Each row in the dataset represents a fire incident and includes data about when and where the fire occurred, dispatch times, when the incident was cleared, and whether the fire spread (Exposures) to another building, structure, vehicle, or objects. Also included are civilian and fire personnel injuries/fatalities associated with the fire incident. Fire Incident records can be linked to Fire Investigations records using the fire incident number.
