Description: Acequias are part of the State of New Mexico's intrinsic cultural heritage. This dataset represents the locations of the headgates to the acequias within the State of New Mexico as part of the Point of Diversion dataset coded under basins as Surface Declarations. Not all acequias have been officially declared and there will be some gap in the depiction of locations until more information becomes available. This data was proved to KUNM at the request of Rashad Mahmood and provided to him by Daniel Estrada, GIS Analyst for the NM Office of the State Engineer, through Melissa Dosher Public Information Officer for the NM Office of the State Engineer.
