Description: Risk assessment is important for understanding the potential impacts from current and future flood and erosion hazards. DOS developed the Hudson River Asset Inventory and Risk Assessment Tool to help communities identify areas and assets of varying levels of risk, in order to plan for risk reduction and long-term resilience of existing infrastructure and community assets. This dataset was derived by selecting those soil survey map units in New York State which intersect with the Hudson River Coastal Risk Area extent from the United States Department of Agriculture, Natural Resource Conservation Service’s Gridded Soil Survey Geographic (gSSURGO) Database for New York State. Soil survey map units were related to the component soil and component month tables in order to populate the dominant soil drainage class and greatest ponding frequency for each map unit. These soil characteristics were chosen for the purpose of assisting with the calculation of a risk score, as part of DOS Risk Assessment Tool.
