Description: This dataset contains polygons representing crosswalks located on interstates, ramps, state routes, TDOT maintained state park roads, and locally owned NHS routes in Tennessee.Crosswalk polygon features will extend the entire length and width of a crosswalk denoted by its paint markings. The extraction of crosswalks is determined by the following definition from Public Right-of-Way Accessibility Guidelines (PROWAG): “That part of a roadway that is located at an intersection included within the connections of the lateral lines of the pedestrian circulation paths on opposite sides of the highway measured from the curbs, or in the absence of curbs, from the edges of the traversable roadway, and in the absence of a pedestrian circulation path on one side of the roadway, the part of a roadway included within the extension of the lateral lines of the pedestrian circulation path at right angles to the center line; or at any portion of a roadway at an intersection or elsewhere distinctly indicated as a pedestrian crossing by pavement marking lines on the surface. Crosswalks at intersections may be marked or unmarked.” Unmarked crosswalks will extend to the edge of pavement on each side of the roadway it crosses. The width of the collected polygon will be generalized between 5-10 ft. These records were derived from vehicle mounted LiDAR sensors and digitally captured photos. This information was collected by Cyclomedia Technology, Inc. under the direction of the Asset Management Division and the Long Range Planning Division.
