Description: About Public Water Supply (PWS) SourcesData contained in this layer for was created for North Carolina's Source Water Assessment Program (SWAP) and to assist governmental agencies and others in making resource management decisions. To meet the requirements of the 1996 SDWA Amendments, a Source Water Assessment was completed for approximately 8,000 drinking water sources in North Carolina. A delineated area for assessment was established for each drinking water source. An inventory of potential contaminant sources was conducted in each assessment area and finally, a susceptibility rating was assigned to each drinking water source. The source water locations in this feature layer were last updated in 2021.
