Description: The smoke control zones were designated in the 1950s to the 1980s as part of the Clean Air Act. The Smoke Control Zones are not likely to change because they cover 90% of the homes and businesses in Renfrewshire. The public can search a map on the Council’s website to see if their property falls within a SCZ.
Description: The Council have a duty to designate any relevant areas where the air quality objectives are not (or are unlikely to be ) being met. The Air Quality Management Areas for Renfrewshire are located in Paisley Town Centre, Johnstone and Renfrew Town Centre. The Paisley AQMA was designated in 2009 for NO2 and PM10. The Johnstone and Renfrew Town Centre AQMAs were designated in 2016 for NO2. The designated areas incorporate the areas on the map and include all properties within 20m measured from the kerb of the boundary roads. Where the boundary transects part of a property, it shall be taken to include the whole of that property (including the building and open space).
