Service Description: This layer illustrates areas where snow storage may be a priority. These categories were generated by dividing typical total snowmelt by total snowfall during winter months across the contiguous United States. The results approximate how what proportion of snowfall is retained throughout the entire winter.
Contours are derived from analysis of NOAH Land Surface Model outputs aggregated on a monthly basis from Dec 1993 - Feb 2024. Only Dec, Jan, and Feb are included in the assessment.
