Service Description: This dataset includes generalized elevation contour lines shown on map M-129B, “Surface topography of Kansas: Elevation contours and hydrography (2025)" (https://www.kgs.ku.edu/General/Geology/map129B.html), published by the Kansas Geological Survey. Elevation contour lines were derived from 2015–2018 lidar data provided by the Kansas Data Access and Support Center (DASC) that were mosaicked and processed to 10-meter resolution by the Kansas Biological Survey. Generalized contour lines were generated with the contour raster function tool in ArcGIS Pro 3.4. Map produced by the Cartographic Services unit of the Kansas Geological Survey. This map displays elevation, the vertical height of the land surface above sea level, using contour lines that connect points of equal value. Contour lines that are more closely spaced together represent steeper slopes. The contour interval of this dataset is 50 feet and includes contour lines that are classified index (every 200 feet), intermediate (100 feet), and supplemental (50 feet). Lines classified as supplemental in the dataset were not shown on M-129B due to scale but were generated during map production. The contour lines in this dataset are generalized for statewide scale; the recommended scale range of use is 1:250,000-1:5,000,000. This dataset covers Kansas and portions of Missouri near the Missouri River valley. More detailed (2-foot interval) contour lines derived from Kansas lidar data can be downloaded per county in the Download Kansas 2-foot Contours map (https://hub.kansasgis.org/maps/KSDOT::download-kansas-2-foot-contours/about).
