Service Description: The Treaty settlements dataset contains two subsets of data: land that was returned to a Māori group through a Treaty settlement, and areas subject to statutory acknowledgements, both provided for by deeds of settlement and empowering Treaty settlement legislation.
A deed of settlement is an agreement between the Crown and a Māori group in recognition of the Crown’s historical breaches of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi. Settlement legislation is required to settle the historical claims and deliver redress agreed in a deed of settlement.
Auckland Council and the Auckland Unitary Plan have specific obligations and opportunities in relation to these lands.
