Description:

The sub-Quaternary geological map of southern New Zealand portrays an interpretation of the geology that lies at surface and below areas of cover that include mapped Quaternary sediment, lakes and near-shore ocean. Surface geology has been interpolated and extrapolated beneath the cover using geological principles, constrained by borehole logs, geophysical interpretation and 3D models where available. The layer shows the continuity of Pliocene and older rocks below cover and can be used for applications such as hard rock mineralisation and aggregate, seismic properties and geological history.
