The solar farm footprints were digitized from high-resolution imagery. Locations were first identified using coordinates, provided by the Energy Information Administration, as well as automated classification of 2024 Sentinel-2 imagery to identify solar farms omitted from EIA data. High-resolution aerial imagery was used to confirm solar farm location and digitize footprints and determine the approximate year of construction.
