The data originated from Utah County. This layer is created as a starting point to model future housing and job growth scenarios and ultimately produce traffic forecasts. MAG staff spend time classifying and preparing the data features with missing or incomplete attributes of the variables listed below. This data is not meant to be perfect. We welcome feedback on incorrect data at any time. The errors that do exist in this layer generally do not inhibit our models from producing a useful data product for the transportation planning process.
Building Type
Multiple county attributes are used to group buildings (parcels) into several types (defined below) and ultimately into 6 main types:
Year Built
If the year the building is completed is not provided in the data, aerial imagery is used to estimate it. If a roof appears to be complete in the autumn aerial image, it is marked as being built in that year.
Residential Units
The number of units is verified by counting air conditioning units from aerial imagery, calling apartment complexes, and/or verifying in the field the number of units in a parcel.
Square Feet
If the square footage of the building is not provided in the data, aerial imagery is used to estimate the area of each floor of the building to then create the building's total square footage.
