The dataset provides a linear representation of speed limit changes based on roadway signs or speed zones established by an Official Order (including the Official Order Number) in accordance with KRS 189.390(4). Speed limits help establish consistent and reasonable expectations for drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists, promoting roadway safety. Statutory speed limits are set by state legislatures for specific road types, such as interstates, rural highways, and urban streets, and apply even when signs are not posted. Posted speed limits, also known as regulatory speed limits, are displayed on signs and may be set by state, county, or city transportation agencies. In cases where posted and statutory limits differ, the posted limit, determined through an engineering speed study, takes priority. Some cities and counties establish blanket speed limits at jurisdictional boundaries. This dataset supports traffic management, roadway planning, and safety enforcement efforts across Kentucky.</span></span></p></div></div></div></section></div>
