Name: 2020 Census Estimate for Park Hamlets

Display Field: GNIS_Name

Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPolygon

Description: This layer is an intersection of 2020 Census Blocks with Adirondack Park Land Use and Development Plan Hamlet areas within the Adirondack Park. Demographic statistics should be considered approximate because census blocks may extend outside of hamlet areas. In rural areas, census blocks may cover a large area though much of the population within them may be clustered near the more populated hamlet area. Rather than count only the blocks wholly within hamlet areas, all blocks that intersect the hamlet are included in the hamlet count. There are four hamlet areas that are each part of two counties. The primary purpose of this layer is to produce county lists of populated places. For this reason, these four county polygons are duplicated with unique county codes assigned. The four hamlets are Auable Forks, Kesseville, Saranac Lake, and Stratford.
