Description: The Current Use Open Space tax program is described in RCW 84.34. The Pierce County Code 2.114 describes how the county administers the program using the Public Benefits Rating System (PBRS). This data set represents the location, size, and natural resource features for parcels approved since 2013 (Pierce County Ordinance 98-114s). It represents a subset of the over 900 Pierce County parcels and almost 11,500 total acres enrolled in the program to date. This tax exemption program is administered by the Assessor-Treasurer’s office (AST) with support from Planning and Public Works (PPW) staff who conduct application reviews, write staff reports, and facilitate legislative approvals and contracting. Enrollment in the program occurs over three years—an application year; a review, approval, and contracting year, and then application of a reduced tax rate the third year. This data was derived from the ATR Parcel geodatabase and suplemented with informatrion about the parcels in the Current Use Open Space tax program.
