Description: Abstract: This data contains public and private drainage systems that are inspected and regulated by Pierce County Public Works - Surface Water Management (SWM). SWM inspects and regulates drainage systems that are in unincorporated Pierce County and drainage systems that are on Pierce County owned property in incorporated cities within the County. Additionally, there are drainage systems in incorporated cities where Pierce County is a tenant, these systems are inspected by Pierce County too. PPGS stands for "Potential Pollutant Generating Source". This data is not a comprehensive list of the drainage systems that SWM can potentially inspect and regulate. New drainage systems are added to this inspection site data set as needed. Some of the ways a drainage system can be added to this inspection site data is by using SIC (Standard Industry Codes) and NAICS (North American Industry Classification System) for businesses in the County, storm water permits, the Assessor-Treasurer's tax parcel data using land use codes, maintenance agreements, and by complaint. Other ways of discovering drainage systems to be added to this inspection site data may be used as they are found. Complaints are typically made by the public when a drainage system is failing. At that time SWM will start the process by which the system will be maintained and inspected. Maintenance can be done by owners of systems on private property, but inspections are done annual by SWM. A fee is charged for inspection, but if the owner of the drainage system follows best Abstract: This data contains public and private drainage systems that are inspected and regulated by Pierce County Public Works - Surface Water Management (SWM).
