Description: 4/15/2019Using new photography and the retaining wall feature class, as well as others, I have snapped surrounding features together as they should be. This procedure has taken sometime and I am sure I have missed some things but the vector basemap looks much cleaner now. I would have thought Rochester would have done this for us as a final draft of their services. All of the line features that should be a closed item are now. As I run across others they will be corrected as well. 3/23/2018 Updated 2/5/201812/12/17 I downloaded this Town of Boone Sidewalk layer from the town’s GIS Server. It appears this layer was created by Town of Boone GIS Department, (Chris Miller?) on 4/21/2015 no specific metadata is available. The polylines were broken at every intersection. For Appalachian State University proposes I felt we wanted whole polylines to represent sidewalks. For walking purposed it does not matter if is a sidewalk or a driveway. The main question is it safe for foot traffic. I proceeded to connect merge the polylines. Some data may have been lost combining the lines with respect to the condition of the sidewalks; however, this column appeared to be fairly sparse and the data is now over two years old. Today February the 2, 2018 I buffered the polylines to 2.5 feet since most of the Towns sidewalks are 5 feet with a .5 foot curb. The buffered lines now polygons have now been attributed and added to ASU sidewalk SDE. 10/9/2017 I edited the Greenwood Trail surface information and some added images. The path was mulch until sometime this summer when it was improved with a layer of added gravel that was roughly graded. The leaves covering the unevenly applied gravel in the path make for a less than even walking surface. This is a woods trail; I would not recommend persons that are not sure foot to use it. 3/6/2017 Editor Tracker has been added to this feature class. All of the attributes have been appropriately updated and meaningless columns omitted. However, this is a work in progress. In this dataset 219 polygons were remotely sensed, throughout the Appalachian State University’s main campus, using aerial photography. The total shape length is 207,265 feet and the area is 981,469 square feet. It would be great if this attribute dataset included when the section of sidewalk was installed, and what the current condition of that section of sidewalk is. As of 07/28/2016 there is no information about when this data was acquired.A new feature class Sidewalk_Hyle09192016 was created and completed, roughed out, on 09/21/2016. This allowed for all of the original data to stay in the Sidewalk feature class from Rochester. This new feature class better represents Appalachian State University sidewalks. All polygons have been named, classed, and condition roughly assessed. Many unnecessary polygons have been removed while many others have been created. This naming and classing of the attribute data came from memory, and viewing the 6-inch aerial photograph. There are currently 266 polygons with a total square footage of 883,702. Total square foot area of brick pavers is 252,220 square feet with 51 polygons selected, and concrete are 608,887 square feet with 208 polygons selected.Woodard & Curran, Rochester & Associates, Inc.
