Parks Canada manages more than 43 NPs. (See http://www.pc.gc.ca/progs/np-pn/recherche-search_e.asp?p=1) for a list of PCA administered parks. The word "Component" means that several records may be used to record individual components of the same NP. Sometimes NPs are divided into several sub-areas or "components", where the attributes for each component differ slightly. For example, the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve is made up of 4 components: The Long Beach Unit, the Broken Group Islands Unit, the West Coast Trail Unit, and the Kennedy Lake component. Each unit would be treated as a separate "component" of the Park. &lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;A couple of other notes:&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;1. Note that each component polygon may have multiple polygons (such as multiple islands of the same component).&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;2. This data layer does not distinguish between land and water components of national parks. For example, the Broken Group Islands component of Pacific Rim National Park is a 5 sided polygon.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;3. Decisions on how to divide each park into components will be left to field-level geomatics specialists. For example, Gulf Islands National Park Reserve may decide to represent each island as a component (one record per island), while Thousand Islands National Park may decide to use one or two components to map multiple islands. Each decision should be based on the variability of the attributes needed to describe each component. &lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;4. The scope of this layer includes NP and NPR areas that are currently operated as NPs (with Parks Canada signs, staff members in uniform, marked vehicles, etc) whether or not the Park or component of the Park is described in the National Parks Act. In this way, this data layer may differ from the National Parks that are listed in the Canada Lands Database (which is maintained by the Natural Resources Canada).&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN /&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;Le but de cette classe d'entités est de montrer les lieux qui sont les parcs nationaux (PN) et réserves de parc national.
