Groundwater samples from the NC Division of Water Resources (DWR) Monitoring Well Network wells were collected in 2023 and analyzed for chloride by the DWR Groundwater Resources Branch staff. Chloride values were classified into three categories or zones: “freshwater”, “saltwater”, and “transitional”. The freshwater zone represents areas with chloride concentrations &amp;lt;100 parts per million (ppm). The saltwater zone represents areas with chloride concentrations &amp;gt;250 ppm, which is the North Carolina Groundwater Standard (“NC 02L Standard”) for chloride.
