        <idPurp>The Division of Coastal Marsh constructed this map of salt marsh projections in North Carolina for the year 2050 based on published data from researchers at Duke University and NOAA. Data processing steps were created by Pew Charitable Trusts and the North Carolina Coastal Federation for the 2024 NC Salt Marsh Action Plan. The map assumes an intermediate sea level rise (SLR) scenario of 1.5 feet from a 2010 baseline to 2050. Areas of Migrated Coastal Marsh are currently upland areas with an elevation and connection to coastal processes that will facilitate their transition to salt marsh as sea levels rise. Areas of Persisting Coastal Marsh are projected to accrete at a rate sufficient to keep up with the SLR scenario. Areas of Lost Coastal Marsh are projected to drown in the scenario. See:
