Title:  Fish Aggregating Devices

Abstract:  Eight surface mooring buoys were located in the northern Gulf of Mexico to enhance recreational fishing opportunities. Potential mooring line material may consist of cable or heavy gauge nylon with mooring components consisting of heavy gauge steel shackles, chains, and swivels with an anchor composed of heavy gauge steel and/or concrete. The buoy and mooring system would be designed to withstand the oceanographic conditions within the project area for the proposed design life (~5 to 7 years), after which the buoy and mooring system would either be removed or replaced. Each buoy includes Coast Guard approved solar-powered light, integrated radar reflection, and a remotely tracked GPS signaling device (for buoy retrieval in the event of mooring system failure). One of the buoys would be designed to carry an additional, limited amount of scientific equipment. (https://www.saj.usace.army.mil/Missions/Regulatory/Public-Notices/Article/1112463/saj-2016-02457-sp-swa/). Although not within the displayed data, a 500-m setback was applied to each buoy, and both the point and setback were included in the constraints submodel for Aquaculture Opportunity Area suitability analysis in the Gulf of Mexico.
